EARLY BIRDS breakfast club and OWLS after school club aim to provide a happy and safe environment for children both before and after school. To enable all children to have fun safely, reasonable behaviour is essential. Both clubs expect and will encourage children to behave responsibly and to respect staff and each other.
Early Birds Breakfast Club
Based in the dining room of the Junior school, Early Birds is open Monday to Friday (during term time only). The club is open to children from 5–11 years. Please note that children are not accepted in the first term of reception without discussion with the Mrs Orviss. The purpose of the club is to provide quality out of school care, in a safe and secure environment, and to provide a healthy breakfast. To enable all children to have fun safely, reasonable behaviour is essential. Early Birds expects, and will encourage children to behave responsibly and to respect both staff and each other.
Activities – the children are able to choose from a wide variety of activities:- puzzles, games, cards, reading, art, craft and more.
Refreshments at Early Birds – the breakfast provided usually consists of a range of cereal, fruit, yoghurts and toast (with a choice of preserves/toppings). We promote good manners and sharing at breakfast time.
Bookings are made on a half-termly basis.
Early Birds will charge for all sessions booked except when the reason for absence is due to illness.
Operating times and charges
Infant children will be escorted to the Infant School by a member of staff.
7.45a.m. to 8.45a.m – £4.25
Owls After School Club
Based in the library of the Junior school, Owls is open Monday to Friday until 6.15p.m. (during term time only). Owls does not operate on the last day of term. The club is open to children from 5 – 11 years. Please note that children are not accepted in the first term of reception without discussion with Mrs Orviss. Cunningham Hill Infant children will be collected from their school at 3.15p.m. by a member of our staff. The purpose of the club is to provide quality out of school care, to meet the needs of working parents looking for alternative activities and play opportunities for their children. To enable all children to have fun safely, reasonable behaviour is essential. Owls expects, and will encourage children to behave responsibly and to respect both staff and each other.
Activities – The children are able to choose from a wide variety of activities:- puzzles and games, computers, reading, little people play, dress-up, cookery, parachute games, art, football, homework time (1/2 hr), basketball, skipping, scooters, ride-on toys, space hoppers, T.V., videos, craft and much, much more.
Refreshments at Owls – We generally aim to eat at around 4.00p.m. The snack will usually consist of; ham, sausage, cheese, carrot, cucumber, raisins, bread roll, selection of sliced fruit and a yoghurt/mousse or jelly. Each day the children can choose from a selection of drinks; assorted squashes, water and milk shake. Occasional extras include; pizza, bacon, chicken nuggets, beans, spaghetti, salami, tuna, toast, seasonal fruit/vegetables ice-cream and lollies. Children who attend extra-curricular clubs are provided with a snack when they arrive at Owls.
We promote good manners and sharing at snack time.

Your booking is charged from the end of the school day regardless of attending extra-curricular clubs.

3.15 – 4.15pm – £4.25
4.15 – 5.15pm – £4.25
5.15 – 6.15pm – £4.25
Please note that from 6.15p.m. there is a charge of £10 per 15 minutes for late collection.
To ensure children’s safety:
- All staff are police checked for their suitability to work with children.
- There is always a trained first aider available (but rarely needed!).
- The premises and equipment have passed rigorous inspection by Officers of Hertfordshire County Council.
- Children are registered at the beginning of a session and must be signed out. They will only be permitted to leave with an authorised person.
- Staff are skilled and trained to encourage safe, active play, promote learning and group activities.
Early Birds and Owls adhere to all school rules and policies. Copies of these policies are available for parents/carers to read.
- We are happy to welcome visitors (by arrangement) to take a look around and/or have a small ‘taster’ session.
